NYC

Heya...

I've taken a break from blogging for a crazy long time but I now feel ready to start again, hopefully more often and with far more photography for you all to feast your eyes on! I love these autumnal months we are in and I couldn't think of a better place to enjoy them than a few days in NYC, which I have just returned from. The crisp mornings and gorgeous leaves turning in central park were enchanting, making dressing for autumn all the more exciting. Here are a couple of looks I wore when I was there.

Wondering around in Centeral Park, on my way to the met.

Scarf - Urban Outfitters
Faux fur coat - Vintage
Jeans - Rag and Bone
Black Boots - Doc Martens
Sunnies - Rayban

Grabbing Lunch in Bryant Park with a friend in the sunshine.

Rings - Henri Bendel
Watch - Casio
Black Top - Brandi Melville
Necklace  - Dodo Jewellery Milan
Hat - Forever 21
Jeans - Rag and Bone

I loved being able to layer up on the more frosty mornings, wearing my scarf and vintage jacket however the last day was a beautiful sunny and warm one so a black turtleneck and felt hat were all that were needed to create an autumn look.

Here are a few snaps from NYC.

Holiday Style

Heya...

I have just got back from an exciting holiday in Vietnam! It was really quite amazing  and an incredible photography opportunity for me, as I love taking photos and there were so many interesting sights and quirky places to capture. It was also lovely to plan and enjoy wearing some summery outfits during the evening, so I though I would share my favourite ones with you guys.

Outfit 1- 60s Vibes

Top - Topshop
Skirt - Textile Federation at Urban Outfitters
Bag - Zadig et Voltaire
Black wedges - Office

I absolutely love this bright colourful skirt as it is just so summery and swishy as you walk around. I paired it with a white turtleneck to embrace the swinging 60s/boho 70s style then wore my black wedges and bag to keep the skirt the focus of the outfit. This is a perfect summer evening look but also great for daytime, just swap out the wedges for some flat sandals and you're good to go!

Outfit 2 - Summer Monochrome

Dress - Bershka
Sandals - Topshop
Headband - Topshop
Bag - Zadig et Voltaire
Earrings - Vintage

I have never been big into monochrome though I feel this dress is my solution to this trend I do my best to avoid! I hate the boring black and white clothes that don't express my style but with this dress, accessorised by the flowery headband and vintage earrings I feel far more myself. I wore my white sandals for a beachy vibe, but the leather bag gives it a modern edge,

Outfit 3 - Tropical Vibes

Top - Topshop
Button up cord skirt - Topshop

This skirt is probably one of my fave skirts for summer as it works with almost anything! The patterned top pairs well and creates a very beachy, summery and almost tropical vibe to this outfit which makes it great for a summer's day.

Outfit 4 - Boho Vibes

Top - Vintage
Skirt - Boohoo
Sandals - Topshop
Earring - Vintage

You may recognise this top from a previous outfit post but this time I went for a more boho look with a long grey maxi skirt. It's a lovely outfit for the evening and looks perfect with sandals and big hoop earrings.

I hope u are all enjoying Summer,

Isla

Vietnamese Style

Heya...

I hope you are all enjoying a lovely sumer holiday! I am currently sitting inside while the tropical rain of Vietnam pours down. Apparently it's the rainy season, though I don't seem to have got the memo as most of my clothes are shorts and t-shirts. However It is very hot and the local vietnamese people wear a variety of things to combat the high humidity. On our tour of Hanoi I saw two women dressed up in traditional Vietnamese clothing and thought I would share their almost oriental style with you!

The lovely flowered patterns are beautifully summery and the long flowing fabric keeps them cool. I probably wouldn't choose theses colours myself however they look so perfect, surrounded by the greenery of the many trees in the city.

Here are a few snaps from Hanoi:

I hope you enjoyed a taste of Vietnamese street style!

Summer Outfits

Heya...

Summertime weather is finally upon us and I have been loving it! It's been almost tropical here in London so outfits have consisted solely of skirts and shorts accompanied by a variety of summery tops in a multitude of bright colours and patterns. I don't know about you guys but when the sun is shining it makes me happy and I love wearing things to represent my mood. Therefore, I thought I would talk you through two outfits I have been loving recently, one daytime and another slightly more elegant one for the evening.

Daytime:

Halter neck Top - Beyond Retro
Button Up Cord Skirt - Topshop

I love this outfit as the halter neck is just so summery and the pattern is so cute. The button up cord skirt has been a wardrobe staple for me so far this summer, as it pairs with almost anything and makes any outfit that bit more interesting.

Evening:

Black Crochet Trim top - Urban Outfitters
Crochet Shorts - Pepe Jeans
Necklace - Urban Outfitters

This outfit is perfect for an evening occasion as it's sophisticated but fun and summery due to the crochet detailing which creates a boho summer vibe. When worn with black wedges it is the ultimate evening look, although also looks great with sliders if you are going to be dancing all night!

I hope you enjoyed these summer looks,

Isla

Vintage Brighton Trip

Heya...

Let's just begin with complaining about GCSEs, which is the reason why I haven't posted in SO long! They are finally over and I am oh so excited for the epic three month(ish) summer to begin. I had a lovely day on Saturday with some gorgeous friends and it was amazing to finally relax, Brighton being the perfect place to do so.

As soon as we arrived we headed for the pier as all tourists do and chose a ride to go on. I won't try and explain what the ride did because you will all be very confused but it was fun and spinny and the perfect start to our day.

The perfect day trip outfit:

Floaty fabric trousers-New Look

Black T-shirt-Topshop

Metallic slip on shoes-Bershka

Cropped Army style jacket-Topshop

Black leather rucksack-Vintage

Round Sunnies-Random shop in Italy

Earrings-Borrowed from my mum

After exploring the pier we headed to this cute and characterful cafè in the 'Lanes' for some lunch which was rather delicious. The lemonade was served in a milk bottle, which is basically pintrest in a drink.

Once lunch was finished we made our way to Beyond Retro which is possibly one of my favourite ever shops and had a look at what was there. I picked out a couple of things although ended up with a gorgeous summer halter neck for a really decent price too! I couldn't recommend Beyond Retro enough!

We soon made our way back to London, however I'm sure it won't be long before we are back again.

I hope you enjoyed reading this and watch out for a post up on summer style which I will be posting soon!

Love,
Isla

A chat with Lexi...

Heya...

I'm trying something slightly different for this post, as the following is an interview with a gorgeous blogger friend of mine called Lexi.  I've been wanting to do it for ages, I hope you like it! :)

It's a beautiful April evening, as the sun slowly begins to set over chiswick common, the sun peaking out behind the church opposite me. However, clutching a freshly squeezed orange juice next to me, is Lexi, a teen style blogger who inspired me to start this blog. Decked in a flowing skirt and velvet tee, she sits happily in the sunshine, oval sunnies perched on her face.

Would u rather have a new pair of shoes or a new handbag?
UGH it's so hard to choose! Probably a new pair of shoes, because I wear my Kanken backpack constantly, I don't really change it. Maybe a new pair of boots, combat boots or something. I'm much more of a shoe person.

When did you start blogging?
Almost two years ago now, which is kinda insane! I did my first post two Februarys ago but my official blog was June 2013.

At this point a dog wanders over to investigate my dripping ice cream, which I quickly move out the way to stop it from getting slobbered before its too late. Lexi giggles as the owner runs over to retrieve their dog who has so cheekily wondered off.

What do you most enjoy blogging about?
The main focus is fashion, but I really enjoy posting about art and culture. I don't post so often about cultural trips, but I really enjoy going to get a new perspective for my art. Art is so linked to fashion, as they're both creative and they are also always influenced by each other within different eras. Everything always ties in together really well.

So if you could choose one era to live in, which would it be?
UGH that's so difficult, there are so many and they're all SO different! I think it would probably be the 60s, as everything visually would be cool and the music would be amazing! At the moment I'm loving the 70s, (I nod my head vigorously as the 70s vibe is one I adore!) so it would have to be between those two I think.

A full on conversation starts about our shared love of 70s flares, although if I wrote it all up, you would all be reading for hours. Can I just say, THEY ARE AMAZING!!

What do you think your summer staple will be this summer?
Sunglasses definitely, they're important-I just bought a new pair actually! Let me think..Hmmm... PLAYSUITS! I love playsuits, I even wear them in the winter. They're great because you can just dance and move around in them...amazing for concerts and festivals. Super comfy aswell!

Eventually we agree that it's slowly getting slightly chilly and make our way back to the bustop, sunnies shielding our eyes from the last of the afternoon sun.

Lexi herself, although in early February last year.

Make sure you check out her blog http://www.lexilikes.com as it is fab and oh so cool.

70s vibes

Heya...

I hope everyone had a great half term this week!

The 70s vibe is a huge trend going on at the moment, so I thought I would create an almost mood board to inspire you all to embrace this hippy decade. I love 70s fashion, as it really encompasses dressing to feel happy, not just being ordinary. The bright hues and gorgeous patterns surrounding the decade should always be worn with a smile!

These are a few of my top 70s picks!

This gorgeous 70s festival vibe dress is on the asos marketplace website, so really easy to find. The vibrant colours really express the freedom and the well cut shape creates a flowing movement to it.

These beautiful, flowing flared trousers may not be in the usual colour scheme of the 70s, however the shape of them is iconic. I am lucky enough to own a pair similar from Biba ( a major 70s label) passed down from my mum, but if you fancy some exquisite summer trousers find these on the asos marketplace website. From styling them myself, its best to go with a tight, roll neck top (as shown in the picture) or something with crochet at the bottom to create a more boho look. To complete the look, find either wedges or even patent boots to make the look more modern.

Everybody needs a sheepskin coat and this 70s number really is a wardrobe staple. I adore the fur collar and the buttons make this perfection. It may be almost the end of winter, however if you need a  warm jacket this is the answer! Find it on the asos marketplace website before it goes!

The tan leather shoulder bag instantly vamps up any outfit with a cool 70s twist. Practical and easy to match with anything, I would pair this with a flowing boho dress for maximum 70s vibe, but it also works with a simple t-shirt and jeans look aswell. GO BUY! This one is from one of my favourite  vintage shops beyond retro.

These wedges can only be described as perfection. They may not work for  everyone, but the mere thought of owning such shoes stops my heart. No joke. These are not vintage shoes by any means, in fact they are part of a newish collection from orla kiely in collaboration with clarks but truly have a 70s vibe. These are statement shoes, ones you must always plan outfits around but people will remember them, and more importantly how stylish you are as you have pulled them off so well.

Hopefully this has inspired you to rock the 70s vibe,

A few bits and bobs..

Heya...

Now my pesky mocks are out the way I am ready to regain my creative brain in order to post as much as I can!

So, I thought I would start again with a little review of a few makeup items I picked up about a week or so ago, from the all important Boots in Westfield.

For anyone who is lacking a creamy, high coverage concealor this is your answer! It blends amazingly, buffing away any flaws or redness you would rather not expose which is something a good one like this should be able to do. It's not expensive at all, although if you're looking for something more brightening the Rimmel Wake me Up is a good alternative.

It was an awful moment when my Rimmel stay matte powder cracked, however luckily this snazzy little product came to the rescue! I love the gorgeous retro packaging and as for the product I cannot fault it. It does come with a little 'poof' thing, though you are definitely better off using a powder brush to ensure maximum coverage. Luckily, it's translucent so no worries about matching it to foundation, but if you are looking for a higher coverage powder foundation, there are many great hughstreet brands you can find in Boots/Superdrug.

This, however is the one product which gets me all excited and even makes me attempt winged eyeliner which I am in fact a bit crap at doing. It's all about the practice-apparently! Even better I got it free as I spent £12 on the powder, however the product itself is great! It's easy to use, well priced and stays on all day, something which many liquid eyeliners lack.

I hope you enjoyed this slightly different post, although can I just point out that I am in no way a makeup 'guru' though these are products I really have been enjoying!

Love,
